Migration

So as not to lose historical content we migrated content from their old Joomla website to the new WordPress site.

Web Design

We worked with Peter Hall & Son on a design to match the integrity of the brand and cleanly display their diverse skills.

WordPress

With a keen eye for design Peter Hall & Son had already opted for WordPress as their preferred Content Management System.

Challenge

Peter Hall & Son are long established high-end furniture makers, with workshops in Staveley, The Lake District since 1973. As a family business now in it’s third generation the business has grown and adapted, now with a boutique situated in Windermere and an on-line shop. With the roots of the business and also the ability to embrace change integral to the business, it was felt a new website was necessary to demonstrate this. As a result Will Hall, Designer, had started to build a new website using WordPress.
With his eye for design the site was taking shape but both time and Will’s ability to further customise the site was getting in the way of him completing the project as he envisaged. In building a visually striking site Will’s own excellent photography was key but displaying this in a way which did it justice would mean customised pages, galleries, Journals and other creative methods of presenting content. Additionally there were historical posts on the old Joomla site which for prosperity and all-important SEO, needed to be migrated to the new site.

Our Solution

Following an initial start-up meeting, we took the time to understand the history of Peter Hall & Son, the values of the business and how they wanted to see themselves presented online. We looked at what was working well in the early design of the site alongside which other websites they considered to be inspiring and fitting with the Peter Hall & Son brand. From that point we took over the design and build of the site, getting the site to a point where we could effectively seek and integrate further feedback from the client.

With a number of specialist areas, teams, an on-line shop and the Windermere boutique we wanted to be sure the website successfully presented each strand, as well as telling the story of the business. We wanted the site to be intuitive, well-presented and most importantly ensure any visitor to the site had the intrinsic ‘feeling’ of good design. Integrity is at the very core of Peter Hall & Son’s values so it was crucial their website offered an experience as closely fitting to the experience they offer their clients as possible.

So as not to lose any of Peter Hall & Son’s story we migrated earlier posts from the old Joomla site to the new WordPress site. We renamed the blog ‘Journal’ and included a new timeline to allow the thriving Cumbrian business the opportunity to really tell their fascinating story. We ensured each specialist Workshop and element of the business was well represented; integrating a customised layout and gallery with Instagram feeds and team profiles.

Most importantly, with design at the heart of it for Peter Hall & Son, we worked hard to ensure even the most intricate details are flawlessly presented. This project has made us ponder design more than ever before and has led to a method of working that we will encompass in future projects.

“It has been a pleasure working with Darren and Eilidh of Freshspace on our new website. Unlike a lot of companies who want to have full control of everything to force you to go back to them for every change, Freshspace have worked with me, understanding our requirements and working as part of the team to create a website with us.

I know I can rely on Eilidh and Darren and look forward to working with them again in the future.

Thank you!”
