New Website and Course Booking System for WEMSI International (UK)

WEMSI International recently split into two separate companies: WEMSI International (UK) and WEMSI International (Ireland), meaning the UK arm needed a brand new website of its own, entirely separate from the original. WEMSI International (UK) run mountain and wilderness medicine training courses across the UK, with bases at Glenmore Lodge in Scotland and Plas y Brenin in Wales. Alongside the new site, we also replaced their old booking process, which previously meant a lot of manual admin, chasing payments, tracking spaces and juggling spreadsheets for every course date - with a system that does the heavy lifting instead.

The problem

Splitting from an existing company doesn't just mean new branding, it means starting from scratch on the systems that actually run the business. WEMSI International (UK) needed a site that stood entirely apart from their former Irish counterpart, with booking and payment logic built around how their courses work here in the UK. Course providers like WEMSI International need more than a simple contact form: every course has multiple dates, limited spaces and different payment routes depending on who's booking: an individual paying in full, someone wanting to secure a place with a deposit, or an organisation needing an invoice. Trying to manage that by hand doesn't scale.

What we built

We built dedicated course pages using custom fields, giving WEMSI full control over each course and its dates: venue, date, total places and places booked all managed directly from WordPress. Every course date links through to Amelia, a dedicated booking plugin, which handles the actual booking process:

  • Course pages and dates managed through custom fields, so WEMSI can add or update courses without touching any code
  • Amelia handling bookings for each course date, feeding through into a custom payment layer
  • Pay in full, pay a deposit, or request an invoice, so bookers aren't forced down a route that doesn't suit them
  • Automatic discounting for charity bookings
  • Venue-specific rules built in, so options change depending on whether the course is running in Scotland or Wales
  • Secure card payments handled through Stripe, invoicing handled separately for organisations that need it

All of this runs quietly in the background. To a course booker, it just feels like a simple, fast process. Behind the scenes, the course pages, Amelia and the custom payment logic are working together to track spaces, apply the right pricing and record every booking automatically.

The result

WEMSI International (UK) now has a website and booking system entirely their own, built around how their courses actually run, rather than inherited from a company they've since separated from. Less admin, fewer errors and a booking experience that reflects the professionalism of the training itself.

If your business is splitting off, rebranding, or just needs a website and booking system built entirely around how you actually operate, this is exactly the kind of problem we like solving. Get in touch to talk through what that could look like for you.
