Scope of work

Hosting

We worked with Handy Concrete’s previous hosting provider to ensure the transfer was handled without issue.

Web Design

A website with an uncomplicated design and, more importantly, an uncomplicated relationship with the provider was important.

WordPress

Building the website in WordPress allowed us the flexibility to work fluidly with our client throughout the project.

Handy Concrete

Challenge

Handy Concrete has grown successfully and at a rate across Cumbria for over a decade, with three depots across the county in Carlisle, Penrith and Workington. When we first met Handy Concrete they already had a website in place and many digital services provided by a large, national firm. There was growing discontent due to the amount of money paid with little explanation as to what they were receiving in return.
While not dissatisfied with the look of their old website and how it fit with their branding it was felt that there were some significant limitations in updating the site to reflect recent works, with simple requests for updates to the site not always being delivered by the provider. As a large Cumbrian business they were keen not only to have someone help them pull apart the jargon but they were also keen to work with a local business where relationships could build and develop.

Our Solution

When we first met with Brian and Myles at their Penrith Depot we had a long conversation about the various agreements and services they had in place with their previous provider, and what we would offer in comparison. As a small, local Cumbrian business we offer a more bespoke and customer friendly service than most national web organisations. We were clear from the beginning that the services we would offer wouldn’t be directly comparable to that of their current provider.

What we could do was work with them to help them understand their current arrangement and which of the various services they were paying for were worthwhile. Also which services we could take over on their behalf and where they it would actually be more beneficial and cost effective to work with a larger organisation. As a result Handy Concrete decided to drop some of the packages where they were not receiving results, delivering a significant cost saving, and to move their website and hosting over to Freshspace. This would incorporate a website redesign that would fit with their existing branding and help them present some of their most recent work.

We built the new website in WordPress, taking aspects of the design they liked from their old site, but also building a portfolio page which showcases some of their best work so that it is easily filterable by the various markets they supply to. We have yet to include ‘mafia’ in this. We handled in full the transfer of Handy Concrete’s domain with their previous provider so as to cut out the middle man and remove any unnecessary stress.

The site was built and live quickly and without issue. Now with little time to sit down and update their website, Handy Concrete take advantage of our support package meaning that any updates or changes to the site can be simply handed over to us for inclusion.

“It has been an absolute pleasure to have Eilidh & Darren from Freshspace, design and create our Website. They were so understanding of our wants & needs and full of ideas for creating a great site from which we are continually getting positive feedback from our customers.

It’s great to know that when we need any updates or amendments to the site it’s just a quick call and its done.

We look forward to a continued working relationship with them for many years to come.”
