Visit Grasmerre

Visit Grasmere is a not for profit volunteer organisation bringing together visitors, local businesses, groups, residents, charities and councils.

The Challege

We were approached by Grasmere Business Partnership in 2016, looking to launch Visit Grasmere. They had a vision to create a multifunctional website for Grasmere, a highly popular village in the Lake District, Cumbria. The website was to be aimed at locals and visitors alike as a one stop shop for all interested in spending time in Grasmere.

The Partnership were driven by the idea of connecting the dots across the village, and ensuring all groups were well-represented. This included the business community and Village Society, each with very different requirements. A limited budget meant that what they were hoping to achieve was potentially out of reach.

Our Solution

Using a pre-built WordPress theme which had potential for customisation and development, we felt we could provide a cost effective solution for Visit Grasmere. Imagery was key; the cooperation and enthusiasm of Grasmere photographer, Kay Adkins was key to creating a visual site which we feel depicts the beauty of Grasmere accurately. Through the use of tried and tested WordPress plugins we were able to build a Business Directory into the site which allows locals and visitors to the village to have access to key businesses information for the area.

Through meetings with representatives from the Business Partnership and the Grasmere Village Society, we were able to understand how they envisaged the site working and the benefits it could bring. As a charitable organisation the Village Society now finally has an online presence with their own page on the website. This is free for them to populate, with involvement in generic news items also pivotal in connecting the various strands of the village as was intended.

Budget constraints meant that Visit Grasmere were keen to have a site which they could regularly update and amend without our ongoing involvement. With news pages, a business directory, contact form and events calendar, there are many options for them to explore in how they communicate with visitors to the site. Delighted with the site, this currently meets their expectations. Nevertheless, there are no limitations on what has been built with the ability to grow and change as the project evolves.
