The Sands is a popular church, in Appleby-in-Westmorland with a congregation which spans generations. Like many religious institutions, they had weathered the storm of Covid and national lockdowns by being more creative in how they reached and supported their congregation. While relieved to get back to face-to-face services and events, their had been benefits to both the church and the congregation in making greater use of online services. How they presented themselves online did not reflect these changes, so a website overhaul felt like a good opportunity.
Simplifying the website and the messages it contained was the key objective to building a new website for the Sands Methodist Church. Using the website to signpost and keep visitors up-to-date with what’s going on, we could see the benefit of a One-Page website. This helped to ensure vital information was kept succinct and on point, whilst also offering a more cost effective solution.
With Sunday Morning Services now also available online via Microsoft Teams, the website has clear links so that people can easily join the service from the comfort of their home…or wherever they are in the world.
Whilst the accessibility online services offer is important, as is the opportunity to meet with others, and with such a busy offering at the Sands, it was important that regular classes, groups and events are displayed clearly. Utilising an intuitive page builder this is also easily updated by those involved.
Based in the beautiful Cumbrian town of Appleby, we used photos of the Sands church, the congregation and its surrounding area to break up the One-page website and to maintain the local community feel. A community which is accessed with ease online and in person.
