The Farmer Network

The Farmer Network is a not for profit organisation solely developed to help, support and guide farmers by providing services and benefits to two distinct local communities, the Yorkshire Dales and Cumbria.

Challenge

The challenge was to improve upon an outdated and unresponsive website which had become overloaded with content, to become meaningful and user friendly. This was with the primary intention of getting across the key messages of the Farmer Network to current and potential members in an engaging and concise manner.

The new website was to encourage greater use by members and to begin to move away from more traditional methods of communication. It was also to be appealing to potential sponsors and advertisers in order to generate a higher level of funding, promoting the work carried out by the Farmer Network in supporting the local farming community.

Our Solution

Our first step in forging a solution was to initially set up a new website using WordPress CMS (Content Management System) so as to put in place a website which the Farmer Network could maintain and update without generally having to rely on external support. The ease of use of WordPress means that they can populate content and easily amend content such as events, news and a growing Labour Directory. This ensures that content is kept up-to-date and meaningful to the user. The site is now also responsive to mobile and tablet devices which benefits members of the farming community who are often on the go.

Meanwhile it allows the Farmer Network to showcase the improved site to prospective members, sponsors and advertisers whilst on the road at various events and shows. Ultimately this broadens awareness of the Farmer Network and will generate greater funding streams to sustain and grow the work which is already being undertaken.
