The Britannia Inn at Elterwater nr Ambleside is a popular Lakeland pub for both locals and visitors to the Lake District. Reputation has always been The Britannia’s best marketing tool. Nevertheless they still needed a website to communicate important information such as their opening hours, food menus, details on rooms as well as annual events.
With an older website that was creaking at the seems and increasingly difficult to update, they were beginning to have to rely on their web developers to make these small changes for them. The site had also been built at a time when SSL Certificates and Cookie Policies were considered less important so it was a good time for a complete overhaul.
A traditional pub with accommodation and boasting a delicious food menu, The Britannia Inn wanted a website which represented them at their best. We redesigned the site from scratch, building it in WordPress so that they could easily manage content, and we could also easily support them in this during busy periods. Based in the beautiful Langdales they unsurprisingly had fantastic photography of their location in all seasons, which we built the site around.
A core part of the brief was that key information had to be easily found on the site with large call to actions encouraging people to pick up the phone to book a room or a meal. We made sure the site was built so that upcoming events could easily be built into the design or removed depending on what was going on at the Britannia Inn at that time. Hit by Covid not long after the website went live we were able to support the client in making sure they were getting the right messages out to customers at the right times.
Warm and engaging the move towards a more contemporary design helped bring the Britannia Inn to life online too.
