The challenge was to give Mid Annandale Playcare (MAP) confidence in their website with the existing site difficult to maintain and update. As a result content was light, with a tendency to utilise social media (particularly Facebook) which was considered more user friendly than the actual website. It was also viewed as a better way to communicate with parents with few making use of the online resource provided through the website.
As a relatively new and progressive childcare facility which has significant meaning to the local community, the website did not fit with the ethos of MAP. From discussions, it was clear that a new website would need to be intuitive enough that updating content wasn’t onerous, modernised to match other childcare facilities and refreshed to offer a more meaningful way of communicating with parents that would integrate with social media.
We opted for a clean design for MAP which was also playful and relative to their primary focus – childcare. MAP is a ‘not for profit organisation’, it is managed by a board of directors, many of whom are parents of children currently attending the facility. This means it was vital to produce something which was entirely fit for purpose, for both employees and parents alike. We worked closely with MAP to ensure the design and mapping of the website worked for them, reviewing other nursery websites which they felt covered best practice, whilst offering parents a contemporary, professional feel.
Feedback was regularly sought from parents and the board as the site was developed, ensuring that it met with everyone’s requirements and offered a meaningful source of information. It also catered for current and future MAP employees with policies and job vacancies prominent in the well-thought out structure. Once the structure was agreed we trained MAP so that they could take over the website and populate it with additional content during a changing time for their own policies and brochures.
With having regular contact with parents and keeping them well-informed of great importance, one of the ways MAP can now do so is by updating an easy-to-use WordPress Content Management System frequently, without anxiety and knowing that we’re on the other end of the phone should they encounter any issues.
